"The International
Workshop of 3D Molecular Imaging by Cryo-Electron Microscopy" will take
place at the Institute of Biophysics (IBP), Chinese Academy of Sciences.
IBP is located close to the Olympic Park where Beijing 2008 Olympic
Games took place. The attendees coud have the chance to see
the wonderful architectures, National Stadium (Bird's Nest) and
National Swimming Center (Water Cubic) that have become the symbol of
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

National Stadium (Bird's Nest) of China
In recent years, IBP has
obtained the best period to be developed. Cryo-electron microscopy
research field is mostly emphasized in this promotion. We will construct
the Center of Biological Imaging (CBI) by setting up three transmission
electron microscopes and one scanning electron microscope as well as
several supra-resolution light microscopes. CBI will combine cell
biology research and structural biology research together to achieve
biological imaging from nano-scale to micro-scale with sub-nano
resolution, from molecular level to cellular level. All the instruments
in CBI will be incorporated into an integrated computer network
realizing remote control, programmed data collection and image
processing pipeline. The three transmission electron microscopes are
120kV TEM, 200kV TEM and the top-end 300kV FEG TEM -- Titan Krios.
The new machine Titan Krios has been already shipped to CBI, now under
installation and will be used for this workshop. Energy filter and STEM
accessory have been configured on this machine. For sure, lots of
promising and exciting research results will come out from this machine
in the near future. Along with the complete construction for CBI, it is
a good time for CBI as well as for IBP to organize one international
workshop about cryo-electron microscopy application in 3D molecular
imaging. This workshop belongs to the Electron Microscopy and
Crystallography Summer School series in memory of Sir K.H.Kuo, the
famous and respectful Chinese electron microscopist.
